Tribunal fines drunken driver one million cedis

Koforidua (Eastern Region) 4 Oct. ’99

A Koforidua community tribunal has imposed a fine of one million cedis on Kofi Amoah Oduro, a driver, for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Oduro, who was additionally charged with reckless driving would serve 12 months' prison term if he failed to pay the fine.

The prosecution told the tribunal, chaired by Mr Asare Duah, on 14 September, this year, Oduro, under the influence of alcohol, drove a Toyota Crown saloon car into the bush near a filling station on the Koforidua-Akim Tafo road.

When personnel of the regional MTU got to the scene Oduro was found behind the steering wheel drunk.

In his judgement, Mr Duah warned that he would deal drastically with any driver who would be brought before him for driving under the influence of alcohol.
