Farmer on murder charge

An Akim Oda Community Tribunal on Thursday remanded Kofi Sammy alias Kofi Afful, a 25-year-old farmer at Nyamebekyere Number Two in the Birim North District in prison custody for murdering his mother-in-law, Martha Darko, 55.
Police Chief Inspector M. T. Addo told the tribunal presided over by Mr. S. D. Alhassan that the accused was married to Comfort Affum, 24, daughter of the Deceased and they all lived in the house at Nyamebekyere.
Inspector Addo said on September 17, Sammy who is alleged to have drank some Akpeteshie,' and killed her by slashing her throat and the back of the head with a cutlass.
Sammy then attacked Comfort who had appeared on the scene but she was able to flee from him after a struggle.
Comfort then reported the matter to the police who after a two-day search arrested Sammy at Yensu Nkwanta, a farming community near Akim Ofoase.
