Political parties and religious bodies have been advised to educate their followers to desist from acts which would divide
the country.
The advice was given by Mrs Funny Kumah, Deputy Director in charge of programmes at the national headquarters of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) at a public forum on the 1992 constitution at Asamankese.
The forum which focused on the need for the public to observe political and religious tolerance was organised by the West Akyem district directorate of the NCCE and attended by heads of departments, religious groups, representatives of political parties, assembly members, unit committees and other identifiable groups.
Mrs. Kumah also advised the public to do away with their political differences and play active roles in the governance of the country through offering meaningful suggestions on national issues.

Two JSS students killed in motor accident

Tragedy struck a family at Opepease village in the Ajumako district on Thursday when three sister from the Enyan Maim Islamic Junior Secondary School were involved in a motor accident that claimed the lives of two and injured the third. The victims, were identified as Miss Cynthia Fosu, 15, Miss Sarah Fosu, 13, and Agartha Fosu, 12.
Cynthia Fosu died on the spot while Sarah died on the way to Saltpond Hospital. The injured, Agartha, was treated and discharged.
Nkwantanum Police said the sisters were returning home from school when a vehicle skidded off the road and hit them.
Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle, Kobena Donkoh is helping the police in their investigations.

Building plans should cater for earthquakes

The Eastern Regional Co-ordinator of the national disaster management organisation, Mr. Samuel Amfo, has appealed to departments responsible for the approval of building plans to ensure that buildings in earth quake prone zones have that the plans to contain emergencies.
He identified some of the earth quake zones in the country as the Macarthy Hills, Nsawam, Aburi and Jumapo, near Koforidua.
Mr. Amfo was speaking at a regional durbar organised to mark the celebration of this year's United Nations World Disaster Reduction Campaign at Amaakrom, near Adeiso in the West Akyem district on Thursday.
The durbar which forms part of activities marking the 10th anniversary of the International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction was under the theme "Prevention Pays"
He said only four out of the 15 districts in the region have made funds available for disaster management and support to disaster prevention programmes.
Mr. Amfo appealed to the district assemblies to use their budgetary allocations on disaster management to support educational campaigns on disaster reduction and to stockpile relief items so that when disaster strikes they could easily fall on their stocks.
Mr. Paul Opoku, New Juaben Municipal Fire Officer, called for a review of the PNDC Law on bushfires explaining that punishments imposed by the law on offenders are too low to deter others from starting bushfires.
Mr. Addo Okyere, Senior Programmes Officer of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) warned that the Agency now has the legal backing to institute legal proceedings against people who flout environmental laws.
He said the agency is now distributing pamphlets on environmental protection to school children to help educate them on environmental issues so that they could grow to become good environmentalists.
Mr Edward K. Shardey, Eastern Regional Environmental officer said between January to October this year, the region recorded 532 cases of cholera out of which nineteen (19) people died.
He said out of the regional figures, 235 cases with three deaths were recorded in the West Akyem district alone.
Mr Shardey said with the outbreak of the disease in some parts of Ashanti and Northern regions, there is the need for the people to be on the alert because people travelling to and from the southern part of the country to the north pass through the region.
