Cocoa purchasing clerk in court for fraudulent deals

Goaso (Brong Ahafo), 16th November 99

A 32-year-old produce clerk of Adwumapa Buying Company, a private cocoa buying company, has been granted 30 million cedis bail for abetment of crime.

The plea of Alex Ampomah who allegedly condoned with Frank Kyei Anane, a District Officer of the Adwumapa Company stationed at Asumura, to defraud farmers of large sums of money totalling 28.1 million cedis, was not taken.

He is to re-appear on November 24.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Bawa Adam told the tribunal presided over by Mr. Williwise Kyeremeh that somewhere in October this year, Ampomah cashed a cheque for 28.1 million cedis being proceeds from the sale of 200 bags of cocoa from the Ghana Commercial Bank at Goaso.

He said Ampomah alleged that he gave the money to Kyei Anane who absconded with it and has since not been seen
