Soccer-Tamasco beat Aggrey 4-2 to reach Valco finals

Accra (Greater Accra) 13 May ’99

Tamale Secondary School (Tamasco) on Wednesday beat Aggrey Memorial Zion School of Cape Coast, 4-2 in their semi-final match played at the Accra Sports Stadium to reach the finals of the Second Annual Valco Invitational Tournament

Tamasco scored through Ibrahim Karim in the 32nd minute, Alhassan Mohammed (52, 81) and Faisal Sulemana (76) while Aggrey got their two goals from Kennedy Asamoah in the 65th and 76th minutes.

Aggrey nearly went ahead in the 12th minute when Daniel Adu dribbled past two Tamasco defenders and sent a pass to Gilbert Koomson but the Aggrey striker shot feebly and it was saved by goalkeeper Abubakari Sulemana in posts for Tamsaco.

Tamasco, who were mostly playing on the break, came close in the 26th minute. However, with only goalkeeper Issah Mohammed of Aggrey to beat, Faisal Sulemana fumbled, allowing the goalie to save the situation.

Thirty two minutes inside the half, the Tamasco lads earned a free-kick at the edge of the Aggrey penalty area and Karim made no mistake when he struck a powerful shot into the net for the first goal for his side.

Playing for 40 minutes in each half, Tamasco came back from the recess and registered their second goal in the 52nd minute through Mohammed.

He tapped in a rebound after a first shot taken by Karim had taken ricochet off the body of his own mate.

In the 65th minute, Aggrey pulled a goal back through substitute Asamoah. Philip Dodzie chipped a, free-kick over the Tamasco human wall and Asamoah fired past the goalkeeper.

Asamoah was on hand again in 76th minute when he nodded home a corner kick taken from the left flank to make the score line even at 2-2 and bring his side back into the game.

The jubilation that greeted the equaliser had hardly died down when Tamsaco scored their third goal in the 77 minute through Sulemana who lobbed the ball over the advancing Aggrey goalie after receiving a pass from Rashid Musah.

Tamasco's Mohammed sealed victory for his side when he turned the Aggrey defence inside out before shooting past the hapless Aggrey goalie for the fourth goal.

Tamasco will meet Pope John's Secondary School (Pojoos) who beat Kumasi Anglican Secondary School (Kass) 3-0 earlier in the day in grand finale, Aggrey and Kass would vie for the third place.

Both matches would be played on Thursday, May 13.
