Be steadfast in faith - Christians urged
Accra (Greater Accra) 28 March 2001
The Reverend Philip Laryea of the Akrofi-Christaller Memorial Centre at Akropong-Akwapim has reminded Christians that without steadfastness they will not be able to face the many challenges that Christianity impose on them.
Giving the reminder at a thanksgiving service to commemorate the 17th anniversary celebration of the Kaneshie District Men's Fellowship of the Presbyterian Church, Rev Laryea said Christianity is a religion of forwards and backwards that entails absolute faith in God.
In his sermon, "Tell My People to go forward", he urged Christians never to retreat whenever they are faced with temptations.
Rather, he said, like the Apostle Paul, Christians should press forward, because "any step we take backward will only turn us into slaves."
He advised members of the fellowship to always abide by Christian virtues so as to increase their membership.
Mr. Judge George Minta, President of the Fellowship, urged all able-bodied members of the church to get actively involved in the activities of the fellowship.
He urged them to visit distressed homes and assist the needy.
In an annual report, Mr Kwaku Owusu-Asante, Secretary, said with initial membership of eight, the fellowship now boast of 476 active members in 10 branches.
The branches, he said, include Kaneshie, North Kaneshie, Dzorwulu, North Darkuman and Bubuashie. The rest are Awoshie, Odorkor, Kwashieman and Calvary Malam.
He announced that the fellowship would soon construct prayer camps and retreat centres to help provide members of the church with their spiritual needs.
Dr Emmanuel Kingsley Opuni, of the Covenant Presbyterian Church at Dzorwulu, who chaired the function, reminded Christians that they would be failing in their duties as stewards, if they did not lead morally good lives worthy of emulation.

Induction service for new Superintendent
Minister
Kumasi (Ashanti Region) 28 March 2001
The Right Reverend Kwaku Asamoah-Okyere, Methodist Bishop of Kumasi, has urged Christians to co-operate with the government in building a prosperous country, in which the rights of all will be respected.
He advised them to be guided by the Christian virtues of humility, righteousness, integrity and love so that they could contribute meaningfully to the positive change Ghanaians are yearning for.
Bishop Asamoah-Okyere was speaking at the induction service for the Very Reverend Comforter Akushie, the new Superintendent Minister of New Tafo Circuit of the Dunwell Methodist Church, in Kumasi.
He asked the Superintendent Minister to put his flock on the righteous path and also use his rich experience to uplift the image of the church.
Bishop Asamoah-Okyere advised ministers of the church to appreciate the cultures and traditions of other tribes to enable them to make the desired impact wherever they might find themselves in the course of their duties.
The Very Rev O.S.K. Boakye, Assistant Synod Secretary of the Kumasi Diocese of the church, commended Rev Akushie for his effective leadership, saying he has worked hard to improve the Wharton Methodist Church, where he was the minister in-charge.
Bishop Asamoah-Okyere assisted by the Very Rev. Kofi Amponsah, Synod Secretary of Kumasi Diocese, robed Rev Akushie in 'a gown and stole' as part of his induction.
