Fountain Gate Chapel holds convention in Bolga

Bolgatanga (Northern Region) 03 January 2001

Bishop Nicholas Duncan Williams, General Overseer of the Christian Action Faith Ministries, at the weekend called for perseverance, determination and godliness on the

part of Christians, to achieve perfection.

He said most Christians often give up in times of difficulty and adopt negative lifestyles when their demands are not immediately met.

Bishop Duncan Williams was addressing a congregation at the Fountain Gate Chapel in Bolgatanga at the annual convention of the church on the theme "Extra Oil 2000".

It was attended by more than 3000 members from 36 branches including Germany, Burkina Faso and Cameroon.

The Bishop noted that the current generation" do not know how to cry to God for support in times of need".

He said if one's prayer is not answered, it means the demands do not conform to God's plan.

Bishop Duncan Williams urged the congregation to persevere even in times of hardship and hopelessness, and to trust in God for solutions.

The Reverend Eastwood Anaba, General Overseer of the Chapel, explained that the theme, symbolically represents a renewal of life, faith and thanksgiving to God for his blessings in the past year.

Nation Building demands focus - Pastor

Accra (Greater Accra) 03 January 2001

The Reverend Seth A. Mohenu, Head Pastor of Faith Baptist Church, on Monday said nation building demands that stakeholders should focus on the strategic needs of the country.

He said: "we must all wake up to the new dispensation and resolve to work with a common mind to build upon the foundations laid to lift up Ghana among the community of nations."

In a New Year message on the theme: "Together we build," which he commended for adoption by the nation, Rev Mohenu said the challenges ahead would not be easy, "but with national focus and understanding we will be there."

He called for the co-operation of both the out-going and the in-coming governments for a smooth transition of the administrative machinery.

He said although there is the need for overhauling of society, this should be done with circumspection in order not to turn back the wheel of progress.

Rev Mohenu said the key to Ghana's development under the new dispensation lies in the willingness of the people to walk the extra mile that may not be smooth, adding that a new government does not necessarily mean an end to all the nation's difficulties.

He said when Israel, under the leadership of Nehemia, decided to rebuild the nation, opposition forces attempted to frustrate its effort but with determination, it succeeded.

"The incoming government should be abreast with forces within and without who may attempt to pose as 'Sanballats' and 'Tobiahs'," he said.

Rev Mohenu cautioned the new government to guard against people especially within the party, who may attempt to push their personal agenda to the detriment of the nation.

He said Ghanaians must shun apathy and laziness and be more committed to work.
