Sika card for cocoa purchases

The non-cash payment system of the SSB Bank known as the "Sika Card," is to be used for cocoa purchases.

The decision to use the card for cocoa transactions is part of a programme to introduce Sika Card in all major towns in the country by mid 1999, Mr. Kwame Aboagye, chief manager of information systems of the bank, announced this at the launching of the card in Ho last month.

The introduction of the card, he said is part of efforts to reduce inflation by helping to mop up excess liquidity, reduce fraud and excessive handling of currency notes. The challenging economic environment in the country requires a convenient alternative payment arrangement hence the Sika Card initiative by the bank, he said.
