Aluworks joins certified world-class companies
Tema (Greater Accra) 15 September 2001 - Aluworks Limited, an aluminium company at
Tema, was on Thursday awarded the prestigious International Standards Organisation (ISO) 9002 certificate for the high quality of its products.
The ISO 9002 Quality Assurance Certification means that Aluworks can continue to compete effectively in the highly sophisticated and demanding markets of the world, as a buyer and a supplier of exceptional quality.
The certificate, awarded by Societe General de Surveillance (SGS) would further boost the image of the company's products that are exported to the United States and the West African sub-region.
Robert Markus, Managing Director of SGS Ghana, who presented the certificate to Mr John Nyako, Managing Director of Aluworks at brief ceremony, said Aluwork's achievement was the result of total focus and commitment.
"The main qualification is the commitment by management to the implementation of quality standards and care for its customers."
Markus said the certification of Aluworks brings to five, the number of Ghanaian companies that have the ISO 9002 quality assurance certification. These are Pipes and Plastics Limited, Canaud Metal Box and two other subsidiary companies of SGS itself.
There aare 400,000 companies world-wide which have the ISO 9002 certification and no different standards were used for measuring the quality of their products and services that enable them to compete with others on the world market.
Nyako said Aluworks has successfully installed a system that enables the company to serve customers with the highest quality products. He explained that it involved all employees in the Continuous Quality Improvement Systems in its bid to attain total customer satisfaction.
Aluworks is expected to grow as the leading supplier of aluminium semis to industry in the West African sub-region and an efficient and competitive source of raw materials for tertiary aluminium factories.
The company also intends to be a future leader in the manufacture of colour coated sheets and aluminium foils for the West African and world markets. Aluworks, which started production in 1985, with an installed capacity of 10,000 metric tonnes annually, expanded to 20,000 metric tonnes in 1992.
It is currently adding a new casting line at a cost of 10 million dollars. The new line that would increase capacity to 30,000 metric tonnes per year would be commissioned next year.
Aluworks, which has won several awards for high quality products and exports achievements, was selected by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (Ghana) as the "Industrial Company of the year 2000"
