Accra (Greater Accra) 07 September 2001 - Liberty Professionals suffered their second successive defeat since the start of the second round of the Star Premier League when they lost 2-1 to visiting Ghapoha in the 17th week match at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday.
The victory, which is the first away win for Ghapoha, propels them to the 10th position from the 14th and out of the relegation zone.
The visitors started as the aggressors and as early as the first minute came very close to scoring but Samuel Hansen failed to finish off after Liberty's goalkeeper, Cudjo Addo failed to make a first time safe of a shot from Alex Awuah.
Ghapoha continued to dictate the pace but had to depend on long-range shots since they could not penetrate the defence of their hosts.
As the match progressed, it became balanced with none able to make a breakthrough.
At the beginning of the second half Liberty went straight into action and opened the scoring in the 46th minute through Kofi Deblah, who controlled a cross with his chest in Ghapoha's box and slotted the ball past goalkeeper Abubari Kenkeni in Ghapoha’s next.
Ghapoha accepted the challenge, took the game to the home team and deservingly got the equaliser in the 52nd minute when Sammy Addo flicked a free kick from skipper Awuah over Liberty’s goalie.
Incessant pressure from the visitors yielded dividend when six minutes after the Ghapoha’s equaliser, skipper Awuah, intelligently shot from the edge of the box to the blind side of goalkeeper Cudjo, to give the Tema lads a vital victory.
