Three-day refresher course for Brong-Ahafo referees
Accra
(Greater Accra) 04 September 2001 - The second round matches of the
delayed-Star Premier League kick-started on Sunday with the two top clubs-
Hearts and Kotoko maintaining their winning forms.
Hearts
defeated Dansoman-based Liberty Professional 3-1in Accra while their archrivals
Asante Kotoko pulled a 2-0 win over Real Tamale United at the Kumasi Sports
Stadium.
Both
teams are travelling outside their favourite home grounds to face their
stiffest oppositions yet. Hearts clash with Real Tamale United at the Kaladan
Park while Kotoko have a date with Goldfields at the Len Clay Stadium on
Wednesday.
RTU,
placed seventh on the 16-club league table on 22 points, have lost their last
two matches. They lost 1-2 a fortnight ago to Hearts in an outstanding and the
other 0-2 to Kotoko on Sunday.
With
this background, coupled with the fact that Tamae lads are rarely beaten on
their home soil, Hearts will have to play above themselves to at least survive.
Hearts
have not been playing very well lately, apparently due to the absence of their
two key strikers, Ishmael Addo and Emmanuel Osei Kuffour. Kuffour has just
secured a contract in the Arab land and is likely to leave the shores of Ghana
by Wednesday while Addo tore a ligament during one of the team's outstanding
match.
But,
irrespective of their "striking" problem, Hearts would be motivated
on Wednesday for one thing- that a slip, would allow Kotoko to overtake them.
Kotoko
who are on 41 points, one less than Hearts, would be trying to at least keep
that thin point difference between the two if not topple them. But Goldfields
who suffered 0-1 defeat to Bofoakwa in Sunyani would also try to make amends.
The Miners are third with 28th points, two more than Hasaacas who trek to
Berekum as guest of neophytes Arsenals.
In
the other pairings, bottom club, Accra Great Olympics welcome Adansiman at the
Accra Sports Stadium, Liberty host Tema Ghapoha Readers on Thursday while King
Faisal clash with Bofoakwa at the Kumasi Sports Stadium.
At
Koforidua, Suhum Maxbees lock horns with Okwawu United while Dawu host
Kwaebibirem.
