ABC penultimate matches fixed for Sunday

Accra (Greater Accra) 28 September 2000

With the 1999/2000 ABC premier league already captured by Accra Hearts of Oak even before the curtains are drawn in two weeks time, the last two matches would be fiercely contested by the rest of the 15 teams, either seeking a place to represent the country in Africa or to escape relegation.

Like Hearts of Oak, the last team on the table has also been determined- and not even the miracle of "agbala" can save B. A. United from joining their former colleagues in division one come next season.

United are pinned at the bottom on 24 points with seven others - Hasaacas, Real Tamale United, Kwaebibirem, Olympics, Dwarfs, Power and Dawu, all relegation potentials. Between these seven teams and Bofoakwa are only five points, making their last two games very crucial. A slip by any of these teams will be disastrous.

But while the bottom clubs will be struggling for a place in the premier league, five other clubs - Obuasi Goldfields (49), Kotoko (43), King Faisal (43), Liberty (40) and Tema Ghapoha (40), would be fighting to protect their ego in the premiership.

And apart from pride, each one of them would like to represent the nation in either the CAF Cup, the Cup Winners' Cup or the less prestigious WAFU Cup reserved for first runners up to the forth placed teams.

With these scenarios serving as a background, Sunday's penultimate matches would produced nothing but fireworks. Top of the pairings, is the Bofoakwa-Kotoko clash at the Sunyani Coronation park.

According to the fixtures released by the Ghana Football Association, uncrowned champions, Hearts would lock horns with struggling Olympics at the Accra Sports Stadium while Goldfields welcome Okwawu United at the Len Clay Stadium.

Sekondi Hasaacas play host to RTU at the Gyandu park, Liberty trek to Koforidua as guest of Power, Kwaebibirem clash with Dwarfs at Asuom and Ghapoha face Dawu Youngsters at Tema Sports Stadium.

At the Kumasi Sports Stadium, King Faisal are tipped to add to the woes of B. A. United.
