Gift Show 2000 comes off on December 15

Accra (Greater Accra) 14 September 2000

The Ghana Trade Fair Company (GTFC) will organise its maiden "Gift Show 2000" at La in Accra from December 15 to 24.

It is aimed at increasing the awareness of people on the need to exchange gifts and bring together dealers of gifts and souvenir items under one roof.

It also aims at fostering linkage between local dealers in gift items and their counterparts abroad.

Mr. Kwame Ofori-Amanfo, Acting Chief Executive of the GTFC, announced this at a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday.

He said 50 companies are expected to participate in the show which is under the theme "The art of showing how much you care".

Mr. Ofori-Amanfo said the fair will bring together textile companies, occasional and seasonal card sellers, jewellers, makers of handicraft, carvers, sculptors, artists, grocers and cosmetic sellers.

He said the conception of this event derived from the new mission of the company to commercially manage the Trade Fair Centre as an internationally r

ecognised trade centre in West Africa and to provide effective and profitable trade investment promotion for Ghana, Ghanaian companies and goods through the medium of trade fairs and other commercial activities.

In the light of this, he said the company decided to increase its activities to cover all aspects of Ghanaian life, both economic and social.

He announced that the company will hold Meditech and Sportech fairs next year.

National Theatre launches SEPTEMBERFEST

Accra (Greater Accra) 14 September 2000

The National Theatre on Wednesday launched its annual September Festival (SEPTEMBERFEST) in Accra.

The festival, scheduled to start from the 27th of September through October 1, will feature performing, visual and media arts, premiering works of resident groups of the National Theatre as well as showcase the original creations of artistes from within and outside Ghana.

The festival, dubbed "The sunlight international arts festival", will be under the theme "100 years of Ghanaian Drama". It will also aim to promote indigenous Ghanaian art works, dance, drama and food.

Ms Korkor Amartefio, Deputy Director of the National Theatre, said the major concern in the arts community is the "apparent slow death" of Ghanaian culture and art.

She said the festival is, therefore, to revive Ghana's culture with a series of programmes.

This year the festival will feature the Winneba Junior Choir and IndigenAfrika, a youth group that renders songs with indigenous African musical instruments.

The dance programme of the festival will be under the theme "Dance Ghana" and will be co-ordinated by Nii Yartey, Director of the National Dance Company.

A theatre programme designed for the youth has been added to this year's festival to provide a practical experience of an English literature set-book - "Marriage of Anansewa" - for Senior Secondary School students.

Thierry Nkeli Fakar, a Togolese artiste, is also billed to perform at the festival.

Another addition to the festival is the "Cook art Ghana", a festival of indigenous Ghanaian dishes at the courtyard of the National Theatre.
