Two
remanded for dealing in narcotics
Accra
(Greater Accra) 06 September 2000
An Accra
Regional Tribunal on Tuesday remanded two Nigerians for two weeks for allegedly
dealing in narcotic drugs.
This is the
third time that the tribunal has remanded Gladys Osula Enoma, a 42-year old
businesswoman and Akinde Bayo Bidemi, a 23-year old student.
The
Nigerians, who were not represented on the first two occasions, have both
pleaded not guilty to the charge.
On the next
adjourned date, therefore, the tribunal chaired by Mr. Justice Benjamin Tetteh,
would consider applications for bail for them by their counsel.
Evidence
before the tribunal is that on January 7, security agents arrested Enoma at the
Kotoka International Airport on suspicion while she was going through
immigration formalities to travel abroad.
A search on
her revealed 102 capsules, which were found to contain the drugs. Upon
interrogation, she mentioned Bidemi as the owner of the drugs and he was also
arrested.
