"NAFAC
2000 is on course", Ghanaians assured

Boateng III, the National Co-ordinator of the National Festival of Arts and
Culture (NAFAC) 2000, on Tuesday gave the assurance that despite delays in the
release of funds, the festival would still come on.
He
expressed the hope that the 1.5 billion cedis budgeted for the festival would
be released by the end of September for the necessary structures to be put in
place for the festival to take off.
He was
speaking in a telephone interview with the Ghana News Agency in Ho on the
progress so far made towards the preparation for the festival, which is
scheduled for November 10 to 19 under the theme "Sustaining a culture of
peace, unity and development in a millennium".

said currently performing groups are being groomed, while artefacts, arts and
cultural works are being collected for exhibition.
Mr. Obed
Ababio, Volta Regional Director of the National Commission on Culture said some
of the activities would include highlife, traditional, and choral music
competition, beauty pageant and seminars.
Others are
regional day celebrations, special days for Women, children and the youth in
addition to community outreach programmes and international friendship
activities.
He said all
these would be climaxed with a national durbar of chiefs and a street carnival
dubbed "Hiplife Nite".
Mr. Ababio
appealed to government to expedite action on the release of funds for the NAFAC
2000 and the completion of the regional theatre.
