But if you ask me whether the Church of England is a Church in specific, theological sense, then we have to say 'no', and that is nothing new. But we are not going to stop calling the Church of England the Church of England."Passenger jets in near-miss over London*********************************An intervention by an air traffic controller helped to avert a mid-air collision by two passenger jets over central London, which could have had tragic consequences. The aircraft, carrying 700 people, were just 700 metres apart and about 10 seconds from disaster when the alarm was raised. Intervention came only after a computer-activated collision course "conflict alarm" alerted them of the danger. The United Airlines jet and Virgin Boeing 747 were flying above Westminster on their final approach to Heathrow in the early hours of Sunday, August 20, when the accident nearly occurred. An air traffic controller instructed the pilot of United flight 998 from Boston: "Take urgent avoiding action now! Turn on to a heading of 270 degrees to avoid airliner."The captain of the United Boeing 777, carrying 278 passengers and 14 crew, obeyed the instruction and averted colliding with the Virgin flight from Washington with 400 passengers and 15 crew. Both jets, flying at about 500 kilometres per hour, were descending towards Heathrow at different angles but could have collided within moments had the emergency diversion not been aired. It would have added to the growing list of tragic air traffic accidents recorded this year including that of the Air France Concorde aircraft, which crashed last month killing 113 people.White Britons to be in the minority race by 2060?***************************************The Times says in an inside page report that controversy is growing over claims that white Britons will become a minority in the United Kingdom by the end of the century.A report over the weekend said, if current trends of fertility rates and levels of immigration continued, there would be more non-whites than whites, by the turn of the century. On current projections, the change could happen as soon as 2060, the paper quotes an anonymous demographer as saying. It says the office for National Statistics is privately considering publishing official predictions of the country's racial mix. The last time such a forecast was made in the United in Kingdom was in 1979 and they are regarded by demographers as having been largely accurate in predicting that the ethnic population would have doubled between 1976 and 1991 to just under three million. Ethnic minorities currently make up 6.4 per cent of the population. Boy walks after pioneering operation******************************Josh Gray, 10, became the first boy in Britain to successfully undergo a 'clean bone marrow' operation that has enabled him to walk again after seven years. When Josh was three years old, he was diagnosed for juvenile idiopathic arthritis, which spread quickly to all his joints. Doctors at Newcastle General Hospital tried to treat the condition with drugs, including steroids, but when this failed a bone marrow transplant was suggested. Surgeons removed bone marrow from Josh's pelvis in March this year and he was given chemotherapy to kill the rest of his bone marrow before new "cleaned" cells were returned to his body.So far only 20 children in the world have received the treatment and not all have survived.A happy Josh, photographed taking some steps in the paper said: "I used to be in a lot of pain. Now I can walk around the supermarket and ride my bike." The Guardian***********Skills shortage prompts immigration rethink***********************************Barbara Roche, Home Office Minister responsible for immigration, is to present a paper which argues that Britain must relax its immigration laws to allow more technically qualified people to settle in Britain to meet the huge skills shortage.Mrs Roche is expected to raise the question before the next general election of whether Britain can benefit economically by encouraging more highly qualified people into the country. The paper seen by other senior ministers as brave in view of the dangers of backlash from right-wingers, will aim to change the philosophical debate from "the present two dimensional picture" of immigrants versus natives.Mrs Roche will argue that more skilled immigrants need to be allowed to settle in Britain to fill in the gap created by the huge shortage of IT workers, doctors and teachers, among others.GRiЮж¤CJ(IT]xОFG*+pqЙК╡ ╢ ▐ ж з У Ф P Q № ¤ ╜╛z¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤ж■z{78jТ=>ghыь23Xw23юяKLцчї-Q¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤QDE№¤█▄ЩЪЮЯабвгде椤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤░В.
