Bank Director arrives for visit

Mr. Medhat
Lofty, Director General of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa,
arrived in Accra on Thursday for a three-day official visit.
A press
statement issued by the Ministry of Finance said Mr. lofty would pay a courtesy
call on Vice-President John Evans Atta Mills and visit the Kpong Irrigation
Project, which the Arab Bank is co-financing with a loan of 8.75 million
dollars.
The
statement said the bank has since 1976 provided loans to Ghana totalling 96
million dollars for 14 projects, five of which have been completed. These include
the Kpong Project and the rehabilitation of Tema Food Complex.
The bank is
currently co-financing a number of projects in the country, including the
Takoradi Thermal Power Project, the Korle Lagoon Restoration Project, the
Achimota-Anyinam road, small farm irrigation and the rehabilitation of the
Bolgatanga Regional Hospital.
The bank
has also provided technical assistance grants for various studies, including
the Tamale rain drainage system, which has resulted in a further loan of 7.7
million dollars for the construction of primary drains in Tamale central
business area.
Mr. lofty,
an Egyptian, was accompanied by, Mr. Ebe Ould Ebe, Country Director of the Arab
Bank in Ghana.
He will
visit other West African countries as part of his tour of the sub-region.
