Voltarians asked to identify with their culture

Asotwe (Ashanti Region) 18 October 2001-Togbe S.K. Fugah, Chief of the Anloga Community in Kumasi has advised people from the Volta Region residing in other parts of the country not to abandon their culture and traditional practices because they are living outside their hometowns.

He said they should rather identify closely with their culture by teaching their children the culture, practices and dialect of their areas.

Togbe Fugah gave the advice at separate meetings held between the Ashanti Regional Voltarians Co-ordinating Council (VCC) Executives Committee and members of the local VCC at Asotwe, Anloga, Aboabo and Sokoban.

The meetings were to enable the Regional VCC to organise more local branches in communities where the VCC does not exist and to strengthen existing ones as part of preparations towards a Regional V.C.C. Congress scheduled for October 20, this year in Kumasi.

Togbe Fugah, who is also the Regional Chairman of the V.C.C., however, advised that while maintaining their culture, they should also recognise and respect the cultural laws and values of their host communities.

Mr Young Ghandhi Atippoe, Organiser of the V.C.C., also advised the members to strive to contribute their quota to development of the communities in which they reside by participating actively in communal labour.
