Musical concert launched in memory of Ricci Ossei

 

Accra (Greater Accra) 11 October 2001 - Musical and fashion shows in memory of the late Ricci Ossei, a fashion designer, was launched in Accra on Wednesday.

 

The musical show, billed for October 20 at the Kaneshie Sports Complex, would feature a cream of artistes of contemporary Ghanaian music. The fashion show is scheduled for December 1.

 

Ricci Ossei, father of Hip-life artiste Reggie Rockstone, died on August 23 at age 57 and was cremated.

 

At the launching Paa Kwesi Holdbrooke-Smith, Manager of Rockstones Records, said the musical concert would start at 1600 hours and last till daybreak. It would be free of charge and would be televised live on GTV, Metro TV and TV3.

 

The concert, to be broadcast on the Internet, would feature Kojo Antwi, Nat Brew, Mac Tontoh, the Pan African Orchestra, Lord Kenya, Rockstone and foreign artistes, ncluding Positive Black Soul from Senegal and the Mapuka Dancers from Cote D'Ivoire.

 

Mr Holdbrooke-Smith said there would be donation boxes at vantage points for the audience to put in money to be used to support a non-governmental organisation called United African Artistes Against AIDS (UAAAA), established by Ricci. 

 

Rockstone thanked all those who, in diverse ways, supported him and the family when his father died. "These gestures of yours were very timely and helped us as a family to contain the shock."

 

He said he would combine his music career with his dad's fashion designing and would soon launch a new fashion label. Among musicians, who read tributes to Ricci's memory, were Kojo Antwi, Nat Brew, Original Ras Kobby and Rocky Darwuni.
