Foreign-based players ready to join Stars

 

Accra (Greater Accra) 04 October 2001 - Some of the nation’s foreign-based players have expressed genuine interest in playing for he national team in the CAN 2002 tournament.

 

The players are said to be in constant touch by phone with the national team handlers and top men of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

 

A source which disclosed this said, the F/A Chairman, Mr Ben Koufie and Abedi Pele are also in personal touch with the players whilst head coach, Fred Osam Doudu and his monitoring agents in the U.K. are also keeping eye on some of the players.

 

Among the players keen on offering their services to the national team are Parma’s offensive midfielder Stephen Appiah, striker Charles Amoah of Sturm Graz of Austria, Mohammed Gargo of Serie ‘A’ side Udinese and Emmanuel Duah of Union Leira of Portugal.

 

According to the Black Stars preparation for the CAN 2002 Mali tourney, a friendly with Mali has been fixed for Christmas day before playing Spain four days later.

 

It would be recalled that the GFAs plans of forming the Black Stars squad around a core of domestic players was dealt a blow, following the refusal of some clubs to release their players to the national team.

GFA invites referees for medical test

 

Accra (Greater Accra Region) 04 October 2001 - The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has invited the under-listed referees and assistant referees to participate in a Medical/Cooper Test on Friday October 5 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

 

They are Alex Quartey, Joseph Wellington, A.N. Kotey, Justice Agbeko and C.M. Atsatsa from Accra, F.K. Mensah (Takoradi), Mike Amedior and Francis Osei-Nsiah (Kumasi), Emmanuel Bisisi (Sunyani) and Ibrahim  Idrissu (Tamale)

 

Their female compatriots are Christiana Tetteh (Mampong) and Benedicta Wormade (Ho).

 

The Assistants Referees are A. Annan-Lomotey, Samuel Quaye and John Seidu all from Accra. The rest are Justice Yeboah (Nsawam), Nicholas Djomoah, Daniel Aheli both of Koforidua, Haruna Ayuba and A.S. Seidu both of Tamale, and B.A. Ahmed (Kumasi)

 

The female assistant referees are Commfort Cofie from Accra and Innocentia Agbavitor (Ho).

Ghana Football Association condoles with Bafana Bafana

 

Accra (Greater Accra Region) 04 October 2001 - The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has sent a condolence message to first division campaigners, Bafana Bafana on the death of their players and officials in a motor accident.

 

A statement signed by Mr Ampin Darko, Acting General secretary of the GFA said the association has learnt with great shock, the fatal accident involving players and officials of the team while returning from a league match against Cape Coast Venomous Vipers.

 

The Acting General Secretary conveyed the association's condolences to the families of the bereaved and wished the injured a speedy recovery.        

 

Takoradi based Bafana Bafana had beaten Vipers 2-0 at Cape Coast in a Metro Division One league matches on Sunday, September 30. It is feared that five members of the squad lost their lives in the accident, while several others sustained various degrees of injuries.
