Cape Coast (Central Region) 03 October 2001 - The management of Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs F/C has appealed to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to award them the points in their match with Sekondi eleven wise which ended abruptly in the 83rd minute at the Sekondi Gyandu park last Saturday.

 

There were no goals at the time of stoppage.

 

In a petition signed by MR Raphael Ocran, a member of the club's executive, the management claimed that supporters of eleven wise without any provocation, threw stones unto the field and injured five Dwarfs Players, "Not satisfied with what they had done, the supporters broke the eastern inner perimeter of the stadium and were about to attack the players on the field, when police and air force personnel came in to save the situation.

 

The petition said it was at this stage that the referee whistled for the end of the match and the police later brought in a vehicle to convey Dwarfs players and officials to the police station where a complaint was lodged.

 

The petition said while at police station Dwarfs, had a tip off that the 'wise' supporters had laid ambush along the Sekondi-Cape Coast road and the team had to be escorted by Airforce men to Inchaban before continuing their journey back to Cape Coast.

Dead Bafana Bafana team members identified    

 

Takoradi (Western Region) 03 October 2001 - The Police have identified the five members of the Takoradi Bafana Bafana football club who died in a motor accident on Sunday.

 

Mr Isaac Alex Kouainoo Takoradi District Police Commander, gave the names of four of the victims as Benjamin Arthur, Curil Lambert and Ebenezer Bodzie all footballers and Mr Yalley Nsiah, driver of the team bus.  The fifth victim was only identified as the wife of the team manager.

 

Meanwhile Mr Kouainoo said the police have mounted a search for the driver of the heavy- duty truck, which was in collision with the bus resulting in the death of the team members.

 

He said the driver absconded after the accident, which occurred while the team was returning to Takoradi from Cape Cost after a first division league match against Cape Coast Vipers.

Boxing-Toney’s opponent expected today

 

Nigeria’s Sunny King dubbed “Hammer” who is scheduled to take on Ghana’s James “Hot Ice” Toney is expected in the country today.

 

He will plunge into final preparation for the African Boxing Union (ABU) middleweight championship bout.

 

The bout initially scheduled for October 5 has been postponed to October 12, at the Kaneshie Sports Complex in Accra.

 

Under Prince and Baseline International Promotions syndicate, the night dubbed “Ogya Night” will see two other championship bout and four challenges contests. National lightweight Ben Neequaye takes on Joseph Sarkodie while Ben Odamten clashes with Moubi Armstrong in a featherweight fray.

 

Braimah Kamoko and Ibrahim Marshal will engage each other in a chatchweight contest duel over eight rounds and Ayitey Powers will sort things out with George Amuzu in super welterweight duel. Alfred will meet Joe Coffie in another welterweight bout while Osmanu Akaba will take an opponent yet to be named.
