Bottom-of-the-league, B.A. United, shocked visiting Cape Coast Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs with a 2-1 victory in their mid-week ABC Premier League match played at the Sunyani Coronation Park on Wednesday. Half time score was nil-nil.
It was a defeat, which Dwarfs would not forget because it would determine whether they would remain in the league or not, which incidentally was the last fixture of the league.
They never dreamt of a defeat because B.A. United on paper were already relegated and did not need the three vital points for anything.
It therefore came as no surprise when majority of the Dwarfs players broke down in tears and wept openly as soon as referee Alhasaan Brobbey of Mampong-Ashanti blew his whistle for the end of the match.
The match itself had been drab right from the beginning, with Dwarfs wasting as many as four goal chances that came their way.
At a stage, the handful of spectators who watched it thought it was a "fixed match" because of the colourless approach some of the United players adopted.
But after the goal-less first half both sides made some changes and to the surprise of the spectators centre-forward, Attiogbe Matthew of Dwarfs opened the scoring for his side in the 48th minute.
United burst into action and in the 63rd minute Abdulai Seidu equalised. They kept on probing and got the match-winner in the 89th minute through substitute Mamouda Mohammed.

RTU sends Visiting Ghapoha with lone goal
Tamale (Northern Region) 12 October 2000
At Tamale, Real Tamale United (RTU) secured the maximum three points to send visiting Tema Ghapoha home with a lone goal victory in their encounter at the Kaladan park.
It was the visitors who kicked off but soon lost the ball to the homesters but their well packed midfield managed to hold the attacking machinery of RTU.
The game which was like an ordinary training session saw both teams committing a number of blunders with the two goalkeepers making frantic saves.
RTU however atoned for their misses when centre Abase Iddrisu shrugged of an attack to lay a neat pass to inside left Joseph Adjei to head a low grounder which beat Ghapoha's goalie for the only goal of the match in the 34th minute of the first half.
Two minutes later RTU should have increased their goal tally but Abass Iddrisu's point blank shot was bravely parried over the bar by Emmanuel Tawiah in goal for Ghapoha.
Ghapoha also had a golden opportunity to equalise but after centre forward Hope Doe Arziz had beaten an off-side and beat the RTU goalie, his goal bound shot was cleared off the goal-line by mid-fielder Ibrahim Musah to the relief of the home fans.
The game from then became a ding-dong affair with Ghapoha playing it hard and attracting the referee's yellow cards on two occasions.
Both teams made three changes each but that did not change the pattern of the game as the RTU lads failed to utilise the numerous chances that came their way till the final whistle.

Tema (Greater Accra) 12 October 2000
At Tema, Liberty Professionals humiliated Goldfields by a lone goal in their match at the Tema sports stadium. The goal was scored in the 35 minute of the first half by Liberty's Robert Akorsah when goalkeeper Constant Mantey underrated 50 yard pile driver and watched it sailed smoothly into his net.
Goldfields, which remained comfortably in the second position on the league table responded by replacing Mantey with Rashid Campaore when play resumed for the second half.
The miners suffered another blow when Referee C. A. Amevor sent off their attacker Momo Wandel for booting Liberty's goalie Cudjoe Addo out of frustration after he had shot loosely into the keepers hands in the 73rd minute during a goal mouth struggle.
Liberty replaced its top striker David Boateng who stumbled frequently with Albert Neequaye in attempt to get more goals but they were held back by goalie Campaore who got the yellow card for callously stamping the feet of Baffour Gyan for no apparent reason. Liberty however wasted the ensuring free-kick awarded in their favour.
In the dying minutes, Goldfields mounted pressure on Liberty but failed to find the equaliser.

Olympics Struggle to get themselves out of
relegation
Accra (Greater Accra) 12 October 2000
Accra Great Olympics struggled to get themselves clear from the relegation zone as they drew 1-1 with Koforidua based Power F/C in their match at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Olympics who needed just a draw to secure their position in next year's premier league dominated the early exchanges but lack of fire power from strikers Roger Odametey and Nurudeen Raja up front robbed them of early scoring chances that came their way.
In the 13th minute Olympics made a mess of a good chance to take the lead when an interchange of passes between Odamtey and Raja made the latter to dribble past two defender only to be deprived off the ball by defender of Power.
Olympics however broke the deadlock in the 41st when Michael Asanti tapped the ball into the Power's net in a melee.
On resumption, Power brought on Moses Amoako to make their attacking machinery potent and this paid off in the 53rd minute when the equalised came through a stunning shot from about 25 yards which David Sharpe in post had no answer to.
Olympics brought on Desmond Amoah for injured Raja and this brought some urgency into the midfield of Olympics as Power were playing on the break.
In the 71st Olympics Sharpe fumbled with a weak shot but Central defender Nii Noi Dowona was on hand to clear the ball to touch.

Nkawkaw (Eastern Region) 12 October 2000
At the Nkawkaw Park, Okwahu United defeated King Faisal by two goals to nil in another encounter. King Faisal dominated the first half but failed to score as they squandered many good chances they created.
In the second half Okwahu introduced Isaac Asante and Kwasi Kyeremanteng at the outside left and outside right positions respectively which changed the tide in their favour.
Okwahu translated their second half dominance into goals when Isaac Asante scored the opener in the 87th minute.
The cheers that greeted the goal had hardly died down when Okwahu increased the tally to two.
It was Kwasi Kyeremanteng who provided the coup de grace when he finished off a beautiful move with a goal, in the 89th minute and sent the home fans into wild jubilation when Accra based class one referee, PS Okine blew the final whistle.

Kumasi (Ashanti Region) 12 October 2000
Kumasi Asante kotoko beat Sekondi Hasaacas 2-1 in their match played at the Kumasi Stadium. Even though Hasaacas lost, they were not in the least disgraced as they dominated the game especially in the first half forcing Kotoko to play to their pattern.
Their only flaw was over elaboration, which robbed them of splitting the points with Kotoko. Kotoko shot ahead in the eighth minute through Alex Djanie who connected from Augustine Amponsah's corner kick.
Kotoko came close to increasing the tally in the 25th minute but Lawrence Adjei's shot went straight into the hands of Maxwell Owusu Banahene in post for Hasaacas.
From then on, Hasaacas with Issah Mohammed leading the attack swung into gear and in the 32nd minute wasted a chance to equalise.
Mohammed however, atoned for his mistake when he scored a cheeky goal in the 42nd minute to equalise. On resumption, Kotoko restored their lead in the 53rd minute through Joe Hendricks from another corner kick taken by Augustine Amponsah.
Hasaacas fought gallantly but failed to equalise.
