Court to rule on Owabi catchment area case on December 22

Kumasi (Ashanti Region) 27 Oct. '99

A Kumasi High Court presided over by Mr Justice A. K. Abada, has set December 22 to give ruling in a writ filed by six Chiefs against the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) and the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) for allegedly demolishing a number of buildings and structures within the Owabi Catchment area last year.

In May, last year, the court granted an interlocutory injunction to the six Chiefs whose lands fall within the area to restrain the defendants or their agents from further demolition of buildings and structures in the area.

The Chiefs are Nana Abrefa Kanin, Odikro of Ampabame, Nana Boakye Yiadom Atonsa II, Atene-Akontihene, Nana Apianin Poku, Kokosohene, Nana Kwabena Opoku, Apredehene, Nana Abrepopaninhene and Nana Abrepokumahene.

They are being represented by Mr Jos Osei-Wusu, a Kumasi-based Lawyer while the GWCL is being represented by Mr J. B. Benson from Accra. The Attorney General's Department is representing the REGSEC.
