Azu, Odonkor families against celebration of Ngmayem festival

Accra (Greater Accra) 27 Oct '99

The Azu, Odonkor and allied families of Manya Krobo have called on the government to stop what they described as "illegal and provocative acts" of Mr Seth Larnor Nyarkor, who is parading himself as the chief of Konor of Manya Krobo.

A statement signed by Mr D. A. Azu, Head of the Azu family, said, "the general public is hereby informed that since the alleged installation of Seth Larnor Nyarkor, on 9th January, 1998, he has to date not been gazetted".

He can, "therefore, not hold himself up as a chief of Konor, when his name has not been entered in the National Register of Chiefs."

The statement was issued in view of preparations to celebrate the annual Ngmayem festival on Friday, October 29 to be climaxed by a durbar of chiefs and people, during which the paramount chief of Konor is expected to sit in state and receive homage from his subjects.

It said, " the Azu, Odonkor and allied families, other claimants, of the paramount stool wish to inform all Manya Krobo citizens and the public at large that there is litigation over the Konor stool pending before courts of competent jurisdiction".
