Four charged for raiding Wesley Girls

Cape Coast (Central Region), 26th October 99

The Cape Coast Regional Tribunal on Monday remanded into prison custody two men who pleaded guilty to unlawful entry and stealing boxes containing provisions and other items belonging to students of Wesley Girls High School for sentencing.

They are Ekow Appiah alias Ekow 'Ghana', 18-year-old apprentice driver and Kobina Prah, a 25-year-old driver.

Two others-- Kwesi Annan, 16, a trader and Kwesi Tetteh, 19, an apprentice driver who appeared before the court on the same charges, pleaded guilty with explanation but the tribunal entered a plea of not guilty for them.

They were granted 500,000 cedis bail each with one surety to reappear on Monday November eight.

Police Inspector Augustine Amonoo told the tribunal chaired by Nana Baffour Adjei that on October 14, this year, Ekow Appiah and Kobina Prah met in Accra and travelled to Kakumdo village near Cape Coast where they met Kwesi Annan and Kwesi Tetteh.

The four hatched a plan to raid the Wesley Girls High School at Cape Coast and about 10:30pm they broke into one of the dormitories where the students "chop boxes" are kept and took away four of the boxes containing provisions and other items.

The accused emptied the contents of the four boxes into one of the boxes, abandoned the three empty ones and took the filled one away.

The Inspector said police investigations into the theft led to the arrest of the four men and that some of the stolen items were retrieved by the police.
