Farmer gets seven years for defilement

When Kwasi Djarkittey, a 24 year-old farmer at Nyame Bekyere village, near Enchi, invited a neighbour's daughter into his room to play Ludo, little did the eight year old girl know that she was going to be defiled.

On 9 September this year, the accused who resides in the same house with the victim, invited her into his room under the pretext of playing ludo with her and sexually assaulted her.

An aunt of the victim who saw her coming out of Djarkittey's room became suspicious and questioned the victim who told her what had happened.

A medical report presented at a Tarkwa Circuit court, which tried the case, said the victim's hymen had been broken.

The accused told the court that it was his "second time of having sexual intercourse with the girl".

The court on Wednesday sentenced Djarkittey to seven years imprisonment in hard labour.

He was convicted on his own plea.
