Begoro (Eastern Region) 6 Oct '99

A 52 year-old shoe dealer at Begoro, Edward Kofi Sakyi alias Aminkey, has been remanded in prison custody for 30 days to enable police complete investigation into allegations that he defiled a 14 year-old daughter of his concubine.

His plea was not taken.

The prosecution told the tribunal chaired by Mr Paul Affum that the suspect lived in another house and the victim's mother usually sent her to carry food to him.

According to the prosecution, each time the victim sent the food, her step-father, defiles her after eating.

The prosecutor said someone who was suspicious, reported the accused to the girl's mother who caused his arrest.
