Trader before tribunal for fraud
Accra (Greater Accra) 5 Oct. '99
noch Gyamera, a trader, collected 3,500 dollars from Ms Joana Apasu, a colleague, under the pretext of clearing goods from the port and also to sell his car to her, but it turn out to be a fraud.
Gyamera appeared before and Accra Public Tribunal on Monday charged with defrauding by false pretences.
The Prosecution's case was that sometime, last year, Gyamera, who returned from Korea brought some goods including a Hyundai car, but could not clear them from the port because he did not have money.
When the goods were about to be confiscated to the state, he approached Ms Apasu for financial assistance and also promised to sell the car to her after
clearing the goods.
The complainant gave him 3,500 dollars to clear the goods, but the accused failed to honour his promise and refused to refund the money. A report was made to the Police and Gyamera was arrested.
He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail to reappear on 8 November.
The tribunal, chaired by Mrs Elizabeth Anderson-Yeboah, ordered that Gyamera should report to the Police every two weeks at 10:00 hours.
He should also repair the Hyundai car within one month and give it to the complainant.
