28 November 2002 - The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) on Wednesday gained a
marginal 2.55 points in an active market that saw traded volumes leaping to an
unprecedented high in recent weeks.
The bourse, which has
had a series of poor runs in previous weeks, rallied thanks to gains by five
equities to push the index to close 1,362.60 points from 1,360.05 points.
Shares that changed
hands rose about 10 times from 55,100 shares to a high of 592,400 shares as a
result of block trade in Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB), Sam-Woode Limited and
Guinness Ghana Limited.
On the broader market,
there were five positive price changes. The Trust Bank Limited (TBL) gained 50
cedis to close at 4,550 cedis, Unilever was up 47 at 4,700 cedis, SSB Bank went
up two cedis at 3,962 cedis, GGL gained five cedis at 1,040 cedis and Fanmilk
was up three cedis at 1,776 cedis.
Market capitalisation
was up at 5,108.42 billion cedis from 5,103.19bn cedis at the previous close.

Minerals co loses first boss

28 November 2002 - The death is reported of David T. Ackah, the first Managing
Director of the Diamond Marketing Corporation, now Precious Minerals Marketing
Company.
He was 92. A family
spokesperson told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that Ackah, who was the first
National Chairman of the Methodist Men's Fellowship, died on November 11. He
had eight children.
Ackah would be buried
at the Osu Cemetery on Friday, 20 December after a burial service at the
Calvary Methodist Church. He was an active member of Gideons International,
which distributes Bibles to hospitals, hotels, schools and other organisations.
