Driver fined three million cedis for fraud

An Accra Circuit Tribunal on Wednesday imposed a fine of three million cedis on a driver, Senusi Osman, who defrauded 11 persons of 10.4 million cedis under the pretext of giving them a house to rent. Osman, in default, will go to jail for three years with hard labour.
The tribunal, chaired by Mr. Mohammed Nabon, ordered Osman to refund the amounts he collected from the complainants. Osman pleaded not guilty to 11 counts of defrauding by false pretences.
The prosecution’s case was that the complainants are traders based at Sabon-Zongo, Kaneshie and Town Council Line in Accra.
Six month ago one Madam Adiza of Zongo junction, engaged the accused to take care of her house while it was being renovated.
The prosecution said in the course of the renovation, Osman collected 10.4 million cedis from the complainants with the promise that he would rent out the house to them on completion of the renovation. He however failed to do so.
