Customers dissatisfied with services of SSB

Takoradi (Western Region) 09 Nov. 2000

Some commercial establishments, traders and members of the general public in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis are refusing to accept cheques of the Social Security Bank (SSB) because of delays in honouring them.

A GNA survey on Monday indicated that more than 20 customers intend to close their accounts with the bank and move to other banks where they can enjoy better and more efficient services.

Mr. Isaac Kofi Nketiah, a businessman and National Treasurer of the Ghana Timber Association (GTA), said customers cannot cope with the long queues and delays at the SSB to clear their cheques.

He attributed the situation partly to the fact that the Bank for Housing and Construction and the Co-operative Bank at Takoradi have been closed down.

Mr. Nketiah, therefore, called on the management of the two banks to resume operation to ease congestion at the SSB.

Officials of the bank whom the GNA contacted refused to comment on the issue.

BAF loan defaulters asked to pay back by November 23

Accra (Greater Accra) 09 Nov. 2000

The Ministry of Trade and Industry on Wednesday asked all Business Assistance Fund (BAF) loan defaulters to pay up by Thursday, November 23.

In a statement, the ministry said it may seek redress at the appropriate tribunals to ensure the recovery of all moneys owed to BAF.

The ministry noted that the failure of most of the BAF loan beneficiaries to pay up for the fund to be revolved was denying other people the facility.

"The ministry is determined to recover all moneys owned to BAF....The ministry, at the end of the grace period, will start serialising in the print and electronic media the particulars of all such defaulters, including the names and addresses of the enterprises, their chief executives and directors at the time of contracting the loan," it said.

Loan defaulters in the Greater Accra Region are to make repayments in favour of BAF account number 562207 007 at SSB Bank, Ring Road Central, Accra.

Defaulters in the regions are to make payments to the same account through the SSB Bank branches in the regional capitals.

Copies of the pay-in slips are to be sent to the BAF Secretariat, SSB Bank Limited, Ring Road Central Branch, P.O. Box 13119, Accra and the Secretary, BAF Committee, Ministry of Trade and Industry, P.O. Box M47, Accra.
