Mason gets six years for inflicting cutlass wounds on two women

Accra (Greater Accra) 23 Nov ’99

A circuit tribunal in Accra on Monday sentenced Kofi Ebo, a mason, to six years' imprisonment in hard labour when he appeared before it on a charge of causing harm.

Ebo, alias Stone, 25, pleaded guilty to two counts of causing harm.

The prosecution said in October, this year, the accused was commissioned by a landlord in Tiafa to lay a pipe line in the house.

The prosecution said two sisters of the landlord who had their cassava plants uprooted as a result of the work, were discussing the matter with the plumber when Ebo arrived.

It said the accused, without any provocation, rushed on the two sisters, Miss Ama Serwaa and Miss Abena Kyerewah, and threatened to beat them if they continued to complain about the cassava issue.

This resulted in a misunderstanding and the accused picked a cutlass and inflicted several cuts on the two women who fled into a nearby bush.

The prosecution said Ebo chased them to the bush but the women were rescued and sent to the hospital.
