Tape is not fake – Nana Akufo Addo

In a banner front-page story on the ‘controversial tape’ the Guide writes that Nana Akufo Addo, Member of Parliament for Abuakwa and publisher of the "Statesman", has expressed surprise at the haste with which the government declared the tape that exposes some crimes committed in Ghana, as forgery.

The Guide says Nana Akufo Addo described the reaction of the government to the issues relating to the tape, the contents of which were published, as "a tactic that rarely succeeds in the long-run for it is eventually exposed as hollow and self-serving".

Nana Akufo Addo, who was addressing a news conference in Accra, is reported to have explained the raging issue of the tape that seems to expose those behind some unexplained murders and acts of hooliganism in Ghana.

He is said to have noted that in the circumstances of weak position, the NDC government has disregarded the issues and the argument of principle and is concentrating on abuse and threats to cover up the main issue of unresolved murders and bomb blasts directed towards private property for political reasons.

Nana Akufo Addo is quoted as stating that the decision by the "Weekend Statesman" to publish the transcript of the tape, was founded on the fact that the paper was "in possession of potentially grave information with far-reaching implications for the public interest".

"The tapes appeared to relate to persons, who were well-known members of the President’s entourage and the voice of ‘Albert’ appeared to belong to a person in that same entourage", the paper quotes him as saying.

The Crusading Guide

…JJ has the most violent record… - Nana Akufo Addo

The Crusading Guide, in its account of yesterday’s press conference by Nana Akufo Addo, MP for Abuakwa, said the parliamentarian described President Jerry Rawlings as holding the "most violent record of all Ghanaian leaders in the country’s 42 years of existence".

"He is the only national leader, who has sought to defend the strange concept of the democratisation of violence", Nana Akufo Addo is quoted as saying.

According to the paper, Nana Akufo Addo’s statement at the press confab was to support a revealing and stunning allegations emanating from the "now famous and controversial tape", which provided the basis for the "Weekend Statesman’s" story of 29th October to 4th November, 1999 and headlined: "Tapes from the Rawlings episode".

The Crusading Guide says the tape, a recorded conversation between one "Albert", is an admission of perpetration of some crimes that is well-known among Ghanaians that remain unresolved to date.

The paper says Nana Akufo Addo asserted that "Albert’s" intimation of real criminal events in which he participated, were ably given credence by the President’s own philosophy of life and conduct since he assumed the reins of power in Ghana. Nana Akufo Addo is said to have pointed to the President’s association with Amartey Quaye, Johnny Dzandu, S.K. Amedeka, Evans Tekpor and Michael Senya, murderers of the three High Court Judges and a retired army officer, in 1982, to support his assertion.

P & P

Incredible!...Woman, 54, delivers mysterious twins…

The P & P in a lead story reports that a 54-year-old virgin, Madam Ama Pinamang of Breman in Kumasi, has given birth to twins after carrying the pregnancy for eight years. What is more, the paper says, that the woman claimed she never had sex with any man before taking the seed which produced the twins.

The P & P says the elderly woman shocked the people of Ntensere-Sunkwa, a village on the Kumasi-Sunyani road, who had rushed to the Emmanuel Salvation Church to witness the ‘miraculous birth’.

She is reported to have told her audience that she had consulted a number of spiritual healers to help her get rid of the eight-year pregnancy but to no avail.

Continuing, the paper says Madam Pinamang disclosed that on August 1, this year, she heard about the Emmanuel Salvation Church and what Apostle Anthony Ahenkan was doing there. She said she was tired with walking around with her enormously protruding belly, so she went to the prayer camp and pleaded to be prayed upon for ‘burden to ease off’.

"Immediately Pastor Ahenkan saw me, he told me to leave his premises with my devilish ways. I then went down on my knees and pleaded with him to intercede for me.

He then asked whether I was prepared to confess an evil deed I committed some eight years ago", She is quoted as saying. The P & P says Madam Pinamang confessed that eight years earlier, her younger sister died through child-birth. She alleged that the twin babies of her younger sister were still-born, but confessed before her audience that she killed her sister and the twins spiritually.

According to her, barely two weeks later she found that her tummy had started protruding like that of a pregnant woman. The paper says after the confession, Apostle Ahenkan decided to exorcise the devil in her.

The P & P says in an interview, Apostle Ahenkan disclosed that on October 10, this year, he invited Madam Pinamang for prayers. "We laid our hands on her and prayed seriously for hours. Later, she went into a trance and when she recovered, she started showing signs of labour. She delivered a set of twins successfully", Apostle Ahenkan is quoted as saying.

Fraud hits Kwame Ghana…Kwame Mickey arrested

The Ghana Showbiz says Kwame Mickey, once a store manager of Kwame Ghana Music Production (KGMP), has been accused of mismanagement and misappropriation of funds to the tune of 208,489,690 cedis, belonging to KGMP.

The paper says Kwame Ghana, a.k.a. Kwame Asare Amponsah, who once operated the successful KGMP, has come out strongly to claim that apart from the 2098.489 million cedis unaccounted for by Mickey, most of the songs that Mickey claims ownership of, are not his because he used his position as the store manager of KGMP to purchase those songs.

According to Kwame Ghana, this fraudulent transaction has left a further debt of a little over 200 million cedis for KGMP to settle.

Stable labour front needed – Employment Minister

The government has appealed to workers to make moderate demands on the national budget to avoid an unstable labour environment likely to disrupt the Ghana’s economic development programme, reports the Daily Graphic in its top story.

The Graphic says the Minister of Employment and Social Welfare Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni, who made the appeal, noted that the present situation in which Ghana finds itself "the least Ghanaians can do to help the country is to create a stable labour environment, make moderate wage demands and increase productivity".

The Minister was speaking in a radio and television broadcast to the nation yesterday. Alhaji Mumuni is reported as urging Ghanaians to appreciate the economic situation otherwise, the country could be heading for crisis.

The Graphic says the Employment Minister conceded that the average Ghanaian worker faces difficulties and offered his support to any measure to improve the living standards of the people.

Ghanaian Times

Labour Minister urges stakeholders to dialogue

The Ghanaian Times also gives front-page treatment to yesterday’s nation-wide radio and television broadcast by the Minister of Employment and Social Welfare, Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni.

The paper reports that Alhaji Mumuni urged all stakeholders on the labour front, to use channels of communication, which have been established, to address issues.

The paper reports the Minister as saying that strikes and threats of strikes might only put pressure on the government to adopt ad-hoc measures which in the end, would not only undermine the policy but also worsen the general economic situation.

"We have to awaken to the realisation that our nation has come face-to-face with the realties of a globalised economy. It is necessary, therefore, for all of us, workers, employers and government, to come to terms with the imperatives of that situation", he is quoted as saying.
