Cashier and five others charged with stealing 95.7 Million cedis

Accra (Greater Accra) 1 Nov. '99

A cashier and four accounts officers of the State Housing Company (SHC) on Friday, appeared before an Accra Circuit Tribunal, charged with stealing 95.8 million cedis belonging to the company.

They all pleaded not guilty to two counts of conspiracy and stealing.

The four accounts officers were however, discharged because the facts presented by the prosecution did not support the charge.

The accounts officers are, Samuel Attoh, Harry Thompson Solomon Quansah Quarcoo and Francis Atsidi.

Bismark Eshun, also an accounts officer of the SHC who is charged with the same offence is at large.

The tribunal remanded the cashier, Paul Neequaye in custody until November 12.

Police Inspector Helen Sarpomaa told the court that on October 21, this year, an audit report on the accused persons showed that they have not been paying to the company's bankers, monies received from its customers.

The company's Area Director confronted Neequaye who allegedly mentioned the other accused persons as accomplices.

Further investigations showed that the accused persons have stolen 95.8 million cedis.
