Chief calls for end to Winneba chieftaincy dispute

Effutu-Atteitu (Central Region) 30 May 2003 - A Divisional Chief of the Effutu Traditional Council, Nana Kwame Obosu II, has appealed to members of the Council opposed to Nana Ghartey VII, Omanhene of the area, to reconcile with him to promote peace, stability, unity and progress in the area.

Nana Obosu said the dispute would not help in the development of the traditional area. ''There is the need for the feuding factions to reconsider their stand and initiate steps to reconcile with the paramount chief in the supreme interest of unity, peace, stability and effective development of the area'', he said.

Nana Obosu, who is the Chief of Effutu-Atteitu near Winneba, was addressing some opinion leaders of the town at a quarterly review conference at Atteitu to discuss issues concerning the development of the community.

Nana Obosu who once opposed the enstoolment of Nana Ghartey, said he decided to reconcile with the Omanhene in order to ensure peace in the area. He attributed the long dispute to lack of development in most Effutu communities.

''This is the time for us to free ourselves from the self-imposed chieftaincy litigation bondage and mobilise our subjects and other resources within our reach for development projects'', Nana Obosu said.
