Owusu-Yeboa launches programme to market Volta’s culture

Ho (Volta Region) 28 May 2001

A programme packaged to market Volta Region's cultural heritage through entertainment, was launched on Saturday with a promise by Mr Kwasi Owusu-Yeboa, Volta Regional Minister to encourage the districts to participate in it.

He suggested that competitive drama and dancing should be organised to sustain the programme and also unearth talents in various areas of performing arts.

Mr Owusu-Yeboa said the programme, a joint venture between the Regional Office of the Centre for National Culture (CNC) and the Volta Star Radio (VSR), an FM station, is an opportunity to market the region and inculcate in the youth, the values of culture.

Arts and culture must not be taken for granted because they give people their identities, without which a nation and its people have no direction, he said.

The maiden programme featured dances such as "Atsiagbekor", which portrays love and performed by the Volta Region CNC theatre group.

Actors of an Ewe drama group treated the gallery with a scintillating play exposing the dangers inherent in the mad rush for money.

Mr Obed Ababio, Regional Director of the CNC, appealed to the public to take active interest in the programme since its sustenance would depend on public patronage.
