Poor performance of stock market continues

Accra (Greater Accra) 10 May 2001

 

Key indices of the Ghana Stock Exchange slipped on Wednesday as the bourse continued its streak of poor performances in recent times under intense bearish sentiments.

The GSE All-Share index, the main market indicator, fell for the second consecutive trading session in the week, losing 0.73 points to close down 897.28 points from 898.01 points. It lost .22 points on Monday.

The change for the year also closed slightly lower at 4.58 per cent from 4.67 per cent.

Market capitalisation also slipped to 3,719.98 billion cedis from 3,720.39 billion cedis.

A total of 42,000 shares changed hands, more than twice the traded volumes of 16,600 recorded on Monday.

In the broader market, there was only one price change, a loss of 100 cedis by Aluworks to close at 6900 cedis.
