Farm labourer to be deported after serving term
for defilement
Asamankese (Eastern Region) 31 May
2000
A Togolese farm labourer, Dzossou
Patron, 42, has been sentenced to 15 years' imprisonment by the Asamankese
Circuit Court for defiling a 12-year-old girl.
The court presided over by Mr S.
S. Appiah ordered that Patron who pleaded not guilty should be deported after
serving his sentence.
Detective Inspector Eric Okyere
told the court that in December last year, the girl went to fetch water from a
stream at Bamenase near Akwatia, where she met Patron and after fetching her
water requested Patron to help her carry the bucket.
Instead of assisting the girl,
Patron grabbed her, took her to a nearby footbridge and defiled her.
The girl was said to have felt
sick after the incident and when her Aunt questioned her, she confessed that
Patron had forcibly had sex with her.
Patron was arrested and the girl
was taken to the hospital, which certified in a medical report that she had
been defiled.
The accused said he only fondled
girl's breast but did not have sex with her.
Mr Appiah described Patron's
conduct, as reprehensible and said no mercy should be shown to such wicked
people.
As an economic refugee, Patron
should have learnt to behave and not commit such deplorable and criminal act,
the judge added.
