Students granted bail

Akropong-Akuapem (Eastern Region ) 26 May 2000

Four former students of Aburi Secondary Technical School, who attacked and threatened to kill their headmaster and some tutors have been granted two million cedis bail each by the Akropong-Akuapem circuit court presided over by Mr. J.H.A. Debrah.

Frank Lartey, William Asante, Ernest Amoah and Wisdom Abbey, who pleaded not guilty will re-appear before the court on Tuesday May 30. They have been ordered to report to the Aburi police twice a week.

According to the prosecution, the four, all former students of the school had their 1999 SSS results cancelled by the West African Examination Council for examination malpractice. They however blamed the headmaster, Mr. Peter Logo and some of the tutors as those who masterminded the action.

On May 10 this year, armed with cutlasses the four allegedly attacked and threatened to kill the headmaster and some of the tutors. They also destroyed official posters on the notice board and a plantain plantation belonging to one of the tutors. Prosper Womenyo, believed to be the ringleader, is on the run.
