Hammah calls for reversal of cultural
adulteration
Winneba (Central Region) 24 May
2000
The Deputy Minister of Roads and
Transport, Mr Mike Allen Hammah, has called for concerted efforts to correct
the increasing cultural adulteration among the youth.
In a speech read for him at the
inauguration of the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Cultural Committee, Mr Hammah
expressed regret at the rate at which the country's youth, are meddling with
foreign cultures, which are gradually over-shadowing the country's rich
cultural heritage.
"This is the right time to
devise effective strategies to arrest the wrong impression being created by the
youth that perhaps, they cannot learn their own ancestors' cultures."
This, he noted, is detrimental
since it threatens to replace their culture with foreign ones. The 18-member
Committee is headed by Mr Kofi Mintah, Central Regional Chairman of the NDC.
