Osu marks rites for Homowo

The Osu Traditional Council on Friday performed the Osu Nmaa Dumo traditional rites at the Osu Castle shrine to commence its Homowo programme.

 

The trustees of the council, Nii Ako-Nortei II, Osu Mankralo and Nii E. O. Nortey, acting Osiahene called on Ga's to respect their tradition, which unifies them.

 

Nii Ako Nortei noted the cosmopolitan nature of Accra being the national capital but stressed that Ga customs and beliefs should be respected by all residents.

 

Nii E.O. Nortey appealed to churches in the Greater Accra Region to respect the culture and traditions of the Ga people for peaceful co-existence. He prayed for guidance for President Rawlings and called for a peaceful election year.

 

The rites, which have not been performed for the past five years was done in a peaceful manner amidst funfair and drumming to signify the beginning of the ban on drumming for the next three weeks.
