Rawlings receives Osibisa

Accra, (Greater Accra) 6th May ‘99,

President Jerry John Rawlings on Wednesday appealed to musicians to cut down on their use of profane language in their lyrics.

"You should strive to avoid the use of profane language. We need to send the right signals to our children", he said.

The President said this when members of the Afro-rock group, Osibisa, called on him at the Castle, Osu.

The group which thrilled audiences during the 1970s and early 1980s with its, "criss-cross rhythms that explode with happiness", is no longer active.

Then based in London, members of the group are now scattered. But they re-grouped in Accra last week and are performing a series of shows for the last time.

President Rawlings told them: "you did Africa proud. We have kept you in our hearts."

Teddy Osei, leader of the group, said they considered it an honour to have their last shows in Accra. He said members came down from Britain, United States and the Caribbean to perform their last shows in Accra.
