Apour reaches climax with carnival

Techiman, (Brong Ahafo) 4th May ’99

The Apour festival of the chiefs and people of Techiman traditional area, which aims at sensitising the elderly to abandon unacceptable customary practices ended at Techiman at the weekend with a carnival.

During the carnival, all chiefs in the area paid homage to the gods of Taa Mensah Bosomfuo, believed to have also taken part in the carnival spiritually after the chiefs had paid homage to them.

At Bosomfuo Taa Mensah's shrine, the chiefs led by Osabarima Dotobibi Takyia Ameyaw, Omanhene of Techiman traditional area, danced merrily embracing each other to signify unity and peace.

They later took turns to pray to the gods for prosperity and unity during the ensuing year.

Among those present at the carnival, include Mr A.A. Munufie, Ghana's Ambassador to Cote D'Ivoire and Professor Ameyaw, Akumfi, Director General of the Ghana Education Service.
