'Take advantage of Gateway Project' -

President John Agyekum Kufuor on Thursday urged Australian investors to take advantage of Ghana's political dispensation and the Gateway Project, which serve as the window to West Africa.
Speaking at the Castle, Osu, shortly after receiving letters of credence from Australian High Commissioner, Robert Whitty, President Kufuor invited investors from that country to forge partnership with Ghanaian entrepreneurs to boost private sector development.
He said government would embark on aggressive reforms in the private sector and ensure that resources invested into it would be efficiently utilised.
President Kufuor recalled relations between Ghana and Australia, underscoring their membership of important organisations such as the United Nations and the Commonwealth and said they share common goals.
"It is necessary to deepen and broaden the bonds of friendship and co-operation between the two countries for the mutual benefits of our people."
President Kufuor asked Australia to assist in the development of sports in Ghana because Ghanaians love sports.
Mr. Whitty, who is based in Nigeria, congratulated Ghana for holding peaceful elections last December, saying the country has made a mark that will be written in the books of the continent.
He pledged to let relations reach their highest point during his tenure of office.
