Soccer-Satellites squeeze past Angola

Accra (Greater Accra) 20 March 2001

The national under-20 soccer team, the Black Satellites, squeezed past their Angolan counterparts by a lone goal in their Group B opening game at the ongoing African Youth Cup in Ethiopia.

The Satellites dominated the first half and created several good chances but lead marksmen Ishmael Addo and Derek Boateng could not convert any of them.

The Angolans played it rough in order to match their skilful opponents.

The second half was a complete opposite of the first as the Angolan who came out of the dressing room reinvigorated made series of incursions into the Ghanaians territory but found Stephen Tetteh and Patrick Vilas at the rear difficult to beat.

Against the run of play, the Ghanaians pulled the chestnut out of the blazing fire in the 35 minute when Derek Boateng's canon shot from the edge of the box zoomed into the net for the only goal of the match.

The Satellites next play their Nigerian counterparts on Thursday March 22.
