Barclays prestige banking centre opens in Kumasi

Kumasi (Ashanti Region) 17 March 2001

Mr Samson Kwaku Boafo, Ashanti Regional Minister on Wednesday said the harsh realities of constant oil price rises and the falling export earnings on cocoa and gold will not halt the determination of the government to rebuild the shattered economy.

"As government, we shall deliver on our promise of a Golden Age of Business for Ghana."

Mr Boafo was opening the third Barclays Prestige Banking Centre at Asokwa in Kumasi. The other two are the Osu and the High Street branches all in Accra.

Prestige Banking is a retail service designed for customers and offers all banking products and services and the customer can have access to the centre by telephone, fax or e-mail to arrange to transact business.

Mr Boafo gave the assurance that the government will restructure and modernise the financial services sector to make Ghana the most attractive investment destination in the West Africa sub-region.

The Regional Minister commended the management of Barclays Bank for the innovation, which would assist to mobilise excess liquidity outside the banking system to provide investment capital to customers to support their businesses.

Mr Kobina Quansah, Managing Director of Barclays Ghana said prestige banking is the latest innovation to be introduced in Ghana.

He said the centre is the first outside Accra to be established because the bank has enjoyed tremendous patronage in Kumasi and Ashanti Region for the past 76 years.
