Adansiman's Premiership dream turns real

Accra (Greater Accra) 01 March 2001

The dream of Adansiman to play in the elite division of Ghana soccer came true on Wednesday, when they beat Koforidua based Power F/C 2-1 in their much postponed play-off match at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Adansiman who deserved the victory having dominated the match from the blast of the whistle, robbed themselves of many good scoring chances that came their way because of naivety in front of goal by their attackers.

Power who were expected to dominate the game because of their premiership status were a pale shadow of themselves as they allowed the mid field of Adansiman, manned by diminutive Frank Asamoah and Ali Mohammed to control the flow of the game.

The first glance of what was in store for Power came in the 9th minute when Adansiman's Hope Leveh could not direct his shot to goal when he found space in Power's vital area.

Against the run of play, Power nearly took the lead in the 20th minute when Shaibu Issifu failed to put away a rebound after Mohammed Bello's initiative had hit the goalpost with Yaw Justice in the Adansiman post beaten.

The first goal for Adansiman deservedly came in the 26th minute, when Mohammed, was put through by Asamoah who raced straight into the goal area and beat Emmanuel Doe in post for Power as his defenders stood thinking the player was off side.

In the 40th minute Adansiman again nearly increased the lead when FIFA referee FK Mensah from Takoradi ignored a penalty appeal by the Obuasi side and allowed Leveh to go past Power goalkeeper Doe, as he struggled to push the ball, which missed the post narrowly.

In the second half, Adansiman continued to determine the pace of the game but they blew most of the early chances due to over elaboration.

The miners however doubled their lead in the 55th minute when Doe failed to grab a low shot from Atia Paul and allowed Leveh who was lurking around to slot the loose ball into the net.

Power started coming into the picture after the hour mark when substitute Dennis Odum gave the defencemen, who looked sluggish anytime the ball was floated, a hard time but Bello and Issifu could not make use of the excellent crosses he provided.

In the 85th minute Power pulled one goal back when Odum shot into the roof of the net as the ball broke to him at the edge of the goal area after a goalmouth melee.

With just a minute to the end of the match, Bello had a fine opportunity to bring the scores at par, when Odum centred for him but the striker, standing unmarked, woefully fumbled with the opportunity, before an empty net.
