Change in Premier League calendar
With
only three matches into the domestic league, the calendar drawn for the year
seems to be going off gear with a host of outstanding matches.
Accra
Hearts of Oak, Accra Great Olympics and Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs were all
playing in Africa cup matches at the weekend as such could not honour their
domestic league matches played during the same period.
Olympics
2nd Week match with King Faisal was postponed to allow them travel
without exhaustion to Tripoli, Libya on Friday.
As
a result, the Ghana Football Association, in consultation with the Professional
League Board has rescheduled Wednesday’s 4th Week matches to coming
Saturday to enable the outstanding matches to be played on Thursday.
Hearts
will be away to play Kwaebibrem United at Asuom with Olympics meeting B.A.
United in Accra.
At
the Sekondi Gyandu Park, Sekondi Hasaacas will lock horns with Cape Coast
Ebusua Dwarfs.
The
League whose first round was planned to end on 14th May 2000 with a
consistent honouring of Weekend and Mid-week matches may be carried over into
June.
Meanwhile
Dwarfs and Olympics registered 0-2 losses in their continental away encounters
against USFA of Mali and Al Itihad of Lybya respectively. Dwarfs are in the CAF
Cup while the Agosu boys are in the CAF Cup Winners Cup.
Champion
club, Hearts of Oak managed a 2-1 victory over Horoya club of Guinea in Accra
on Sunday.

Accra (Greater Accra)
23 March 2000
Mr J. Y. Appiah, Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association
(GHALCA), has expressed optimism that the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr E.
T. Mensah will adhere to their demand of non-interference in the competition
for the ABC premier league to continue on Saturday.
Inn an interview on Top Radio in Accra on Tuesday, he said that
the minister has agreed not to interfere in the running of the ABC league.
However, that "we can only take his (word) seriously if he
puts it in a written document, else we would stick to our boycott."
GHALCA threatened on Monday to boycott the remaining matches
starting with the fourth week fixtures on Saturday if the Minister does not
stay away from the running of the domestic league.
They resolved, among other things, that the Ghana Football
Association should take full control of the domestic programmes by prevailing
on the minister to disengage himself from the running the league.
The issuance of free complimentary tickets from the ministry
should cease forthwith, they added.
Meanwhile the GFA has announced that the division one league
kicks-off on Saturday, 1 April.
