Daddy
Lumba is expected to sweep a number of awards in a new award ceremony dubbed
"Ghana Music Award 2000", the brainchild of Charter House
Productions.
The
high life star's Aben Wo Aha, Akyeame's Mesan Aba and Daasebre Gyamenah's Kooko
are neck to neck for the Song of the Year award.
Daddy
Lumba has also been nominated to contest with Lord Kenya and Daasebre Gyamenah
for the Artiste of the year title.
The
Aben Wo Aha album has been nominated alongside Akyeame's Nkonson Nkoson and
Papa Yankson's Show your Love for the Album of the Year category.
For the High life Song of the year the song
track Aben Wo Aha, Papa Yankson's Show Your Love and Rex Omar's Fa Wo Akoma
Mame are battling for the award.
Ghana
Music Awards nomination/selection committee comprising various music presenters
on Radio and TV, arts and entertainment writers submitted the names of the
nominees and the category of nominations last Saturday at Sam's cottage in
Accra.
The
awarding group reviewed the 55 nominations forms received from radio stations
nation wide at the Saturday meeting.
For
the Rap Song of the Year Akyeame's Mesan Aba, Wo Sisi by life line family and
Lord Kenya's Sika Baa have been nominated.
Vying
for the Reggae Song of the Year award, are Rocky Dawuni's In Ghana, Kojo
Antwi's Pour Some Sugar and Felix Bell’s Daniel In the Lions Den.
Radio
station DJ's and entertainment writers in Ghana made the initial nominations by
filling a form.
The
planning committee then came up with the list of six finalists for each
category and the nomination selection committee went on to reduce it to three
nominees for each category.
The
final list of nominees will be published in the print media for the next two
weeks for the public to cast their votes on the eventual winners. The
electronic media will be used in Kumasi and Takoradi to encourage the public to
participate in the final selection.
