Adidome Company bounces back with 2b cedi investment

Accra (Greater Accra) 6 March 2000

The Adidome Ceramics Company Limited has budgeted to invest about two billion cedis to create employment and help revitalise the economy.

It has already injected one billion cedis in equipment and assets to revive the company, which was closed down about four years ago.

It has initially employed over 30 personnel under the first phase of its expansion programme and hopes to increase the number to 120 by the end of this year and 200 by 2001.

Mr Graham John Smith, British-Canadian investor and Managing Director of Adidome Ceramics Company Limited, disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency on Monday.

The company has started producing facing bricks, Marseille profiled interlocking clay roof tiles, clay pavers for driveways, sunscreen blocks for patios, bars and restaurants and decorative brick slices for the external and internal cladding of walls.

Mr Smith said about 140,000 bricks had been stockpiled and production would increase by the end of April.

Six canons are expected to be built in addition to the existing one for large-scale production.

Mr Smith said the conducive investment policy and the prevailing stability induced him to invest in the country, especially at Adidome in the Volta Region.

The company will establish a depot at Kumasi in the Ashanti Region to produce and supply its products to the whole nation.

Mr Smith said the Eastern, Central and Greater Accra Regions are on the company's priority list of distribution, adding that it would export products to Togo, Cote d'Ivoire and Benin.
